Silver Eagle Releases New Fifth-Wheel Tactical Trailer for HMMWV use
Design optimizes mobility; allows for maximum performance
Portland, Oregon (06/12/08) - Silver Eagle Manufacturing Company, the frontrunner in military tactical trailer design, engineering, and manufacturing, has released its latest tactical vehicle trailer. This innovative design allows for maximum towing performance and exceptional durability. Introducing the Silver Eagle Fifth-Wheel Tactical Trailer (FTT) and STABLE Fifth-Wheel System.
The FTTs design allows increased towing performance for standard and up-armored HMMWVs. The trailer features unitized body construction and a maximum payload of 5,050 lbs. The trailer is made from durable aircraft-grade aluminum and HSLA steel, and it wears a highly corrosion-resistant chromate conversion pretreatment and electro-deposition coating (E-coat).
The FTT attaches to the vehicle using Silver Eagles innovative, patent-pending STABLE (STabilized Articulating Beam Load Enhancing) fifth-wheel system. The system mounts in the bed of the HMMWV and has a commercial fifth-wheel head and commercial Class 8 adjustable air bags for increased stability. The STABLE system provides the trailer 14 degrees of roll articulation and 30 degrees of pitch articulation.
FTT running gear is comprised of a sturdy, fully-independent trailing arm air-ride suspension with field-replaceable wheel spindles. The unit rolls on HMMWV-compatible steel wheels wrapped in Goodyear Military Wrangler tires with 30-mile run-flat inserts. The trailer has a 40 degree departure angle and a 90 degree turning angle for excellent off-road performance.
The braking system is microprocessor-controlled, and showcases an electric-over-hydraulic brake actuator, specifically designed for 24-volt military applications, and blackout capability. The trailers 12 hydraulic drum brakes have automatic breakaway actuation and lever-operated mechanical parking brakes. The trailer also showcases a sealed lighting system with blackout convoy lights and an on-board battery for brake controller actuation and breakaway capability.
